Spring is in the cookies!

I guess I've been pretty busy making cookies lately. Springtime brings bugs, baby showers, First Communions and flowers, not to mention birthday parties, which seem to occur all year. I'm going in several different directions these days, and it has my head spinning a bit. Fighting a head cold doesn't help, but you need not hear the details of that! Quick question, (if you're still reading, not just looking at the pictures) we've been experimenting with backgrounds for photos. Which do you prefer, the white background, or the dark/wood table background? Now, look at the pictures again and report back. I'm going to go make myself a hot toddy. 

Scrap happy.

This is the before picture. When I'm working on a new project, it's not a pretty picture. I'm not one of those people who needs a pristene environment in which to create. A bit of chaos bothers me not at all.

 

Since I've been collecting vintage tablecloths and making with them for some time now, I have piles, if not mountains, of scraps. I had a whole day off from cookie making, so I decided to make use of said scraps, and make something. Something not for a show, not for an order, just because. 

 

I started by rotary cutting a whole bunch of rectangles, 4 inches wide, in various lengths. I wanted to piece together a quilt top in a sort of random order, to showcase the pictorial images and beauty of the textile designs.

 

I pieced together the rectangles, end to end, until I had 45" (approximate) lengths. After I had a whole bunch of strips, I pieced those together, to make a big old square.

After a few hours of cutting, piecing, and pressing, my vintage textile, patchwork quilt top was complete.

I love it!

This is only about half of it. I pieced a lot more, to make it sqare-ish. Now to finish it. Not sure if I'll just back it with chenille fabric, or use batting too. Hmm. . . next cookie free day, I'll get 'er done. 

Did I mention. . .

I'm having another cookie decorating class! The Friday night class is full, but there's still room on Saturday, May 4th. 

This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate with mom! Or your friend who's a mom, or just come and get away from the kids! I'll even serve a special spring cocktail--when was the last time you got to drink in class?!
