Gardening helps to ground me. Ground. That is a good and deep word. Life can be very complicated, but when you make a garden, you get back to the root of it all. Root. There, again, a "deep" word. Oh, too many puns. I'm trying to be serious here.
Sometimes you just have to dig deep to get through it.
Fortunately, I had a little help from my friend, the young, strong and optimistic Stephanie.
We turned the soil, dug in some magic manure, and planted some favorite summer veggies.
About a month later, this is what the garden looks like. Most things are thriving, including the weeds, though the snails seem to be enjoying my basil as a late night snack. Hey, a snail's gotta eat too.
They are, however, staying away from my yellow squash. Mmmm. They'll be ready to saute soon. It is good to enjoy the fruits (and vegetables) of your labor.
