Just a quick hello between shows to share some cookies with y'all. 

 

These Santas, snowmen and snowflakes, are on their way back east to Sweet Gourmet, where they will spend the holidays.

 

The store is located in Sayville, New York, on Long Island. I'd love to visit. But for now, it will just have to be Frosty and friends.

 

I hope they're not stuck in a snowstorm somewhere between here and there. The weather is definitely getting frightful. We've had lots of rain and wind here in So. Cal, as well as the first rainbow I've seen in these parts in a very long time. Hope you are all staying warm and safe out there.

Midnight Hooting

Busy, busy time for the KH Creations crew (Basically, that means Kelley). Three days of shows this weekend. As I write this, Kelley's asleep. She's terrible at relaxing, but a great sleeper. Once she's down, she's out. And it doesn't matter where... but those are stories for other days. I'm still awake so I decided to post this photo I got while visiting our good friends this past weekend. She's a beautiful, brand new baby girl — 6 weeks old in this shot (I think she digs the beanie). 

 

I sure do. The crochet animal beanies Kelley is making are my favorite thing she's done in a while. So fun. More spy photos of the beanies and our friend's new kids to come. Congrats Jeff and Laura, Andy and Jennifer, Alfredo and Stephanie...

My Thanksgiving weekend. . .

As I get older, all cliches seem to be true. "Where does the time go?" "My they grow up so fast!" Of course most of these cliches deal with time, which becomes more precious with every passing day. So why haven't I posted in a week? Time flies.

 

I was busy wrestling with the turkey,

 

and working on a huge cookie order.

 

I finished it and it's headed back to New York as I write. I'll share more cookie photos next time. Until then it's time to slumber. Wish I was a cat sometimes.

Thanksgiving

We started our Thanksgiving festivities with our traditional Wednesday night apple pie making session.

 

Emmet set a new record for peeling an apple . . . 3 seconds flat. Believe it.

The B word. . .

. . . the doctor says I have bronchitis. I've been burning the candle at both ends, and it finally hit me. When Dr. Hasan asked if I needed a note to get off work, I told her I work at home. "Oh good." she replied. Except that I can't take any time off. I have 100 cookies to decorate, Thanksgiving dinner to make, several special order dresses to finish, and more inventory to pump up before the last four shows of the season, which happen in the next two weeks. That being said, I had a fabulous time in Ojai last weekend.

 

The show was outdoors and the weather cooperated perfectly. Everything was so well run and the volunteers and attendees were incredibly nice. In fact everyone in town was so nice. 

 

This three generation family included. They had to have this dress after trying it on, on the spot.

 

Hats have been selling like crazy! I better make more of those too. It's on my list. At least I can sit under a blanket, in front of the roaring t.v. (we have no fireplace) with a cup of tea while I crochet.

 

Ojai was also filled with amazing restaurants, including this one. I understand it can get pretty rockin', but we went at 5:30 pm. We were too tired to really paint the town after that. Maybe next time. Thanks to all the Ojai folks for being such great hosts. I'm definitely coming back!
 
 
 
 

Too busy for words. . .

Last weekend I did two shows and met some wonderful folks, and customers!

On Tuesday night, I was lucky enough to be invited to do a trunk show for the preschool my son attended 10 years ago! If you're in the area you may know about Portuguese Bend Cooperative Preschool. It's located on the beach in Palos Verdes. It was the best school experience we've ever had. I don't have photos but, it was a wonderful evening, bringing back so many sweet memories. 

Now I'm off to Ojai for a 3 day event; the 13th annual Holiday Home Look In and Holiday Market Place. Carrie is going too, and our friend/assistant Tonja, so it will be a fun girls weekend! Hope yours is fun too. 

Night Owls

I've once again been preoccupied. Besides getting the boy back on track after his illness, I'm swamped with holiday shows, and . . . owls. I've been loving owls for a while now, and I've been seeing them everywhere in the design world. I bought the necklace (below) at the Rose Bowl Flea Market a couple years ago. It's from the '60s I think. I put together the applique above, with felt, vintage fabrics and new cotton prints. It will be going on some tee shirts I think.

 

Then I found this too cute flannel. . .

 

It's going to become Cuddlewear.

 

And this. So excited about this one. The owl hat was born out of another late night crochet session. I'm now working on a baby chick, and I'm thinking, raccoon. Too weird?

Bad week for clowns

It's been a rough week here at the Hart-Jenkins household. After having a fever of 103 for two days, accompanied by a gut wrenching cough, which morphed into the worst cold of all time, the "clown" woke up at 2 in the morning with a horrible skull splitting head ache. He never really gets headaches. Nothing helped, so we ended up at the ER. Poor kid was crazy with pain. The ibuprofin we gave him did nothing. Finally the Dr. gave him morphine and fluids, which still didn't help. So they gave him a little more, which finally took care of it. They did a CAT scan which was clear, and we went home and went back to bed at 5 a.m. 

We all slept for most of the morning, and Emmet woke up feeling better than he had in days. I personally felt exhausted and frustrated. I hate seeing my baby in pain and sick. He catches everything that comes around, and has missed a lot of school this fall. He's in a magnet program for gifted and high achieving students. Missing school is frowned upon, and his teachers are not terribly sympathetic about being out. So his grades are in the toilet, and he's depressed about that. 

The good news is that today, he is so much better. Me too. We slept a lot, and the sun is shining. We have good friends who have our back. Emmet's great friend Henry has dropped off homework and worksheets every day this week, so he can try to keep up at school. 

And in the end . . . you can always make cupcakes. 

Halloween rewind

Halloween was out of control on our block this year. Probably due to falling on Saturday, and the fact the we are overrun with 13 year old boys around here. This holiday was made for them.

 

This is my favorite 13 year old. He's been home sick for 2 days. Maybe it was something he ate.

 

We had some other visitors this year as well. . .

 

Let's just say, they weren't all greeted with open arms. My bad.
